There's less crowds, less traffic, and the beauty of the Outer Banks remains all year. If you do visit, make sure to check if your favorite restaurants and attractions are open to visit.

The Wright Brothers National Memorial announced their free fee days for 2021:
- January 18th - Martin Luther King Jr. Day
- April 17th - 1st day of National Park Week
- August 4th - Great American Outdoors Act Anniversary
- August 25th - Nation Park Service Birthday
- September 25th - National Public Lands Day
- November 11th - Veterans Day
- December 17th - 118th Anniversary of the First Flight
All Dare County Parks & Recreation facilities are closed and all scheduled activities are suspended indefinitely due to rising cases of COVID-19.
Beach driving is back in Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head until April 30th, 2021. Beach permits are available for purchase at Kill Devil Hills Town Hall by appointment only. Call (252)-449-5338 to arrange an appointment. Nags Head permits are available at Nags Head Town Hall or at all tackle shops in Nags Head. Permits issued in Nags Head are accepted on KDH beaches and vise versa. Seasonal permits are $25 and temporary permits are $10, which are accepted for 14 days. Drivers license, proof of insurance and registration are required to purchase.
The Ocracoke Campground at Camp Hatteras National Seashore is to remain open year-round. All 136 campsites are open to use. Reservations can be made at www.recreation.gov
Cape Hatteras National Seashore beached will open to permitted off-road vehicles 24 hours a day if no sea turtle nests are nearby beginning on Tuesday, September 15th. Permit and Access information can be found at .
