The Northern Lights could be visible over the Outer Banks this evening due to a solar storm. If the Kp index gets between a 7 and a 9, the sky will emit a greenish hue that is best seen in an area with little to no light pollution.
With the 117th Anniversary of the 1st Heavier-Than-Air flight by the Wright Brothers, the Town of Kill Devil Hills annual firework show will be taking place on Thursday, December 17th at 7pm at Avalon Pier. The show will also be live streamed here.
The one and only Santa Claus will be making an appearance today and tomorrow in Kill Devil Hills with the help of the KDH Fire & Police departments. Visit their Facebook page and click here for event info and where & when you can spot him.

Join the Village Table & Tavern for their Merry Maker's Market on December 11th beginning at 4pm where local artisans will be showcasing their goods on the lawn and in the Sound Lounge. There will be smores, as well as seasonal drinks and treats.
Red Sky Cafe will be hosting it's Dinner & Drink Series: 'Tis the Season dinner on December 14th beginning at 6:30pm. There will be traditional Christmas fare from around the world, featuring yuletide wines, beers or spirits. Reservations are required and can be made by calling (252) 261-8646.

Beach driving is back in Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head until April 30th, 2021. Beach permits are available for purchase at Kill Devil Hills Town Hall by appointment only. Call (252)-449-5338 to arrange an appointment. Nags Head permits are available at Nags Head Town Hall or at all tackle shops in Nags Head. Permits issued in Nags Head are accepted on KDH beaches and vise versa. Seasonal permits are $25 and temporary permits are $10, which are accepted for 14 days. Drivers license, proof of insurance and registration are required to purchase.
The Ocracoke Campground at Camp Hatteras National Seashore is to remain open year-round. All 136 campsites are open to use. Reservations can be made at www.recreation.gov
Cape Hatteras National Seashore beached will open to permitted off-road vehicles 24 hours a day if no sea turtle nests are nearby beginning on Tuesday, September 15th. Permit and Access information can be found at .
