Christmas is the season for kindling the fire of hospitality in the hall, the genial flame of charity in the heart. ~Washington IrvingEach year the Outer Banks Wedding Association participates in area events that allows the association to give back to the Outer Banks community. This Christmas season, OBWA donated their time, as well as gifts and monetary donations to the Outer Banks Festival of Trees and the Outer Banks Angel Tree Program.
23rd Annual Festival of Trees
OBWA board member, Kathy Halloran (including her husband, daughter, and grandchildren), Kathy's other daughter and the OBWA administrative assistant, Kellye Halloran, and Kate and Daniel Pullen created a Mardi Gras Wedding themed tree that was valued at over $4000. Donations were collected from OBWA members and the tree was auctioned for $1000 with the proceeds benefiting the Outer Banks Hotline.
The Festival of Trees is an annual fundraiser that benefits crisis intervention programs of the Outer Banks Hotline including court advocacy, shelter, counseling, support groups,
emergency response to the hospital and other support services for victims of domestic and sexual abuse. Hotline also provides a 24 hour crisis phone line, training for local professionals and community education on these topics. Community outreach --- especially prevention education activities in the local schools --- is presented to address bullying, child victimization, human trafficking, and personal safety.
Local businesses and artists donated the beautifully decorated Christmas trees and the additional gifts included with each auctioned tree. The public was welcomed at Jennette's Pier in Nags Head on December 3rd. While visiting with Santa, the guests were able to take a tour of all of the donated trees. Saturday evening, local celebrity Bill Rea presided over the auction of the donated trees. Along with a silent auction of unique gifts, the tree auction provided holiday fun and cheer, along with the support for the Outer Banks Hotline.
Thank you to all of the generous Outer Banks Wedding Association members that donated gifts to the Mardi Gras Wedding tree.
