Mission Statement:
The Outer Banks Wedding Association is a not-for-profit organization comprised of nearly 300 member businesses for the purpose of promoting the Outer Banks as a wedding destination and our members as resources to brides and those planning events in the area.

Vision Statement: To be recognized as the premier wedding destination on the East Coast. The Outer Banks is one of the most popular coastal wedding destinations in the country, and the Outer Banks Wedding Association is the premier service organization for wedding professionals located in Currituck, Dare, and Hyde counties. We are approximately 300 members strong, and are governed by a nine-member Board of Directors.

The Outer Banks Wedding Association is a non-profit trade marketing organization representing the Outer Banks wedding industry. While we require our members in good standing to adhere to a Code of Professional Ethics, the organization's Board of Directors do not recommend or refer to any single member, nor do we mediate disputes between members or their customers.

How to Join OBXWA
We encourage any wedding-related company meeting the following criteria to submit an application. 

  • You must be a year round resident of Dare, Currituck or Hyde County.  A valid North Carolina Driver's License must be on file for each member as proof of residency.
  • Your business must be located in Dare, Currituck or Hyde County.  Supporting documentation should be submitted with your application.
  • Your business must have been operational for one year within Dare, Currituck or Hyde County prior to submitting your application.
  • You must have a website representing your business.

Member benefits include:

  • Your business linked on our web site and listed in our official magazine, Outer Banks Weddings.
  • Access to bridal leads generated from our web site every year.
  • The opportunity to exhibit in and sponsor our annual Wedding Weekend & Expo in January, which draws nearly 1200 attendees from across the country.
  • The opportunity to exhibit in our annual Summer Bridal Mixers. 
  • The opportunity to advertise in our official magazine, 2017 Outer Banks Weddings.
  • National, regional, and local media coverage generated by OBWA's public relations efforts.
  • Networking opportunities with other OBWA members.

We have two membership levels:

  • Regular members are those businesses and individuals who directly service and sell goods or services to the bride.
  • Associate members are those businesses and individuals who service or sell to OBWA members (such as publications, attorneys, accountants, etc.).


Annual dues for both membership categories are $295.00 (one category) and are due on June 1.  Additional categories are $200.00 each per year.  Prorated dues of $100.00 ($200.00 for each additional category) are available for those applying for membership February 1 to May 31.  There is a non-refundable application fee of $50.00.  Upon receipt of your completed application, application fee and dues, our Board of Directors will review your application at their next monthly meeting.  You will be notified via email once your membership has been approved.
