FROM THE COUPLE:
Why they chose the Outer Banks for their destination wedding: The Outer Banks has always been a special spot for both families. Rob and Katie have been spending their entire lives down in the OBX, with Katie's family owning homes down there and Rob's parents making it a regular vacation spot. You can't match that great feeling when you cross the Wright Memorial Bridge. It feels like you've left all of your worries and stress at the other end of that bridge. We wanted that care free feeling on one of our most important days.
The inspiration behind their wedding: The theme of the wedding was "glitter and sparkle!" Katie had visions of a Great Gatsby party, with everything in gold, copper, and crystal. Since it was October, we incorporated white pumpkins and painted sticks and pine cones with gold and copper. There were pops of Sapphire Blue in different parts of the wedding, to incorporate the sapphires that Rob had designed into Katie's engagement ring. All of this was the decorating vision of Katie's talented mother, Gale Bryant.
The absolute favorite part of their day: There are too many to count! We had purchased a HUGE white kite with tails (from Kitty Hawk Kites) and we all woke up on the wedding day to see the kite flying from the Sanderling rooftop. Putting on the "Princess Dress" and being loaded into the limo (as a girl, Katie always talked about getting a wedding dress so big that it would fill up the whole car. This one did just that!). Getting married in front of the giant beautiful window at Duck Methodist Church. The Bagpipe player (Rob's 1 request) playing as we exited the church. Having Hot Cakes play at our wedding. The dancing and having all of our favorite people in one space.
