FROM THE COUPLE:
Engagement Story: Even though we grew up in the same town, it took us 23 years to meet. A mutual friend invited us to a concert, convinced that we knew each other. We didn’t. But after that night, we were inseparable.
We were vacationing in Sicily and staying at his Italian relative’s house for our anniversary. On our second day of the trip, we spent the entire day together at a nearby beach he hadn’t been to since he was ten years old. With just a few locals scattered about, he shared with me the memories he had there growing up, how special this place was to him and how happy he was to share it with me. On our walk back, he asked if we could take a few pictures at sunset to remember what a perfect day we had.
That night, his cousin (who is a professional photographer) offered to come with us and take pictures by the water. After the first few photos, she asked for one by myself and I was a little confused, but he moved out of the shot and I smiled for the camera. When I turned back to him, my now-fiance was down on one knee asking me to marry him. I said yes (through tears) and he stood up, gave me a hug and whispered in my ear, “this place means a whole lot more to me now.”
Why they chose to wed on the Outer Banks: We always loved to the idea of having a place where our families and friends could all stay as well as attend the wedding. When we found The Black Stallion, we immediately knew it was the perfect place to get married. With 24 bedrooms, it was not only big enough for almost all of our family to stay, but it also gave us complete privacy when it came to the big day. The house and property itself had the unique combination of being big enough to accommodate our ceremony and reception, and also provide the an intimate feel that we will always cherish.
Absolute favorite part of their wedding day: Rich -"For me, it was seeing my soon-to-be bride walk down the staircase on the way to the alter. It was a moment where it felt like time stood still and everything hit me all at once."
Lindsey - "Everything about our ceremony felt unique and special. We wanted to make sure our entire family was involved from Rich's cousin as our officiant, to my aunt as our reader, to the candle lighting ceremony with our our parents. I felt so loved seeing everyone involved, and made the day feel like a true union of our families, not just me and my husband."
